DESCRIPTION

The LT-R-QSM-500 16AWG/2C + 22AWG/1P CMR Automation Cable is designed for reliable power and signal transmission in automation, control, and smart building system installations. It combines two 16AWG power conductors with a shielded 22AWG twisted pair, allowing both power and data to be carried in a single cable for simplified installation and reduced labor costs.

Constructed with stranded bare copper conductors for excellent conductivity and flexibility, the cable features aluminum Mylar shielding with a drain wire to help minimize electromagnetic interference and maintain signal integrity. Its CMR riser-rated jacket is engineered for vertical runs between floors and in-wall installations, providing dependable performance while meeting riser fire safety requirements.

Rated for 75°C and 300V, the LT-R-QSM-500 delivers consistent performance for commercial automation, access control, security, and integrated control system applications, including Lutron and Crestron installations.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q: What is 22/2 + 16/2 automation cable used for?
A: This combination cable is designed for automation and control systems that require both low voltage power and communication in a single cable. It is commonly used for lighting control, smart building systems, access control, security, and automation equipment.

Q: Why does this cable combine 16 AWG and 22 AWG conductors?
A: The larger 16 AWG conductors provide additional current carrying capacity for powering devices, while the shielded 22 AWG twisted pair is designed for control and communication signals. Combining both into one cable simplifies installation and reduces the number of cable pulls.

Q: Why choose 16 AWG instead of 18 AWG power conductors?
A: The larger 16 AWG conductors have lower electrical resistance than 18 AWG, making them better suited for longer cable runs and applications that require higher current while helping reduce voltage drop.

Q: Why is the 22 AWG pair shielded?
A: The aluminum Mylar shield and drain wire help reduce electromagnetic interference that can affect sensitive control and communication signals, providing more reliable system performance.

Q: What does the CMR riser rating mean?
A: CMR indicates the cable is approved for vertical riser installations between floors as well as general in wall applications where riser-rated cable is required by building codes.

Q: Can this cable be installed outdoors?
A: No. This cable is designed for indoor riser installations only. Outdoor installations require cable specifically rated for outdoor use.

Q: Can this cable be buried underground?
A: No. This cable is not rated for direct burial. Underground installations require a cable specifically designed and marked for direct burial use.

Q: Is this cable compatible with Lutron and Crestron systems?
A: Yes. This cable is commonly used with Lutron and Crestron automation systems that require separate power conductors and a shielded communication pair. Always verify the cable specifications required for your specific equipment.

Q: What is the drain wire used for?
A: The drain wire provides a convenient grounding point for the shield, helping maximize shielding performance when properly terminated according to the equipment manufacturer's recommendations.

Q: What applications is this cable commonly used for?
A: This cable is commonly used for lighting control systems, smart buildings, access control, HVAC controls, energy management systems, security systems, commercial automation, and other low voltage control applications.

Q: Can this cable be installed in conduit?
A: Yes. This cable may be installed in conduit when additional mechanical protection is desired or required by local electrical codes.

Q: Is this cable suitable for professional installations?
A: Yes. This automation/control cable is trusted by low voltage contractors, electrical installers, system integrators, and automation professionals for commercial and residential control system installations.
